Vincent Van Gogh was a wonderful man, but he had some bumps along the way including dealing with depression. One piece of evidence Van Gogh had a catastrophic love life. He then moved to The Hague and fell in love with Clasina Maria Hoornik, an alcoholic prostitute. She became his companion, mistress and model.When Hoornik went back to prostitution, van Gogh became utterly depressed. In 1882, his family threatened to cut off his money unless he left Hoornik and The Hague. (Vincent van Gogh - Biography - Painter - Biography.com."). One example of him being depressed, is he moved after his cousin had rejected him, Van Gogh then moved and fell in love with an alcoholic prostitute whose name was Maria Hoornick. they had done everything together. “On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh went out to paint in the morning as usual, but he carried a loaded pistol. He shot himself in the chest, but the bullet did not kill him. He was found bleeding in his room. Van Gogh was taken to a nearby hospital and his doctors sent for Theo, who arrived to find his brother sitting up in bed and smoking a pipe”. (Vincent van Gogh - Biography - Painter - Biography.com.") . This is another example of him showing he was depressed by trying to shoot himself and him trying to kill himself. He was trying to kill himself because he didn't want to be alive because he had a mental illness. In conclusion,this proves that Van Gogh was depressed
